Lightbox for my 360° rig

Today I made a lightbox out of mostly surplus materials that weren’t being used anyways. It is going to be used for my 360° rig.

I still had a makeshift dust enclosure from back when my Shapeoko was still stock size. Basically all that was was some alu profiles taped together and some white foamboard as sidings. I took it apart, cut the profiles to size and taped it back together basically in the exact same way. The virgin foamboard is perfect as backdrop. I chose not to go the usual horizontal way and bent it along the vertical axis. The reason is simple: there is always going to be a rounded horizontal seam from my rotating platform, so it didn’t make sense to install a seamless horizontal backdrop. Instead, I can now easily use the wide-angle GoPro without vertical lines in the background.

Here’s the frame:

Then I installed some LED lighting. This is the first and only thing in this whole build that actually cost me some money. 10€ to be exact so it didn’t break the bank :-).

This thing is now ready to be automated.

Here’s a new test with the lighting. Much better already than my previous attempt.
