Electronics enclosure / control interface (13) – Testing

So here it is: my electronics enclosure in all its glory!

Weighing in at just over 1.5 kilograms.

The aim was to keep the amount of cabling going in and out to the absolute minimum. I like to think I managed to do just that with only one 7-strand ‘AUX’ wire, an AC cord and obviously the 3 stepper cables.

I don’t know why I chose this particular design, but I really wanted to do a V-engrave because it needs the 3 stepper motors work in unison more than simple 2.5D work. And I guess I think the zebra is beautiful and really lends itself for V-engraving. The wood is purpleheart. I may try to add an inlay later on.

“Now was there seriously no issue whatsoever?” I hear you ask. Yeah well actually there was… For some reason my Z motor stops working when screwing the aviation plug tight. When I just insert the plug without tightening, it works. I really hope that this is a problem in the cable connector rather than inside my box, or I am really … well… screwed…

Anyway, I’ll look into it another time.

I am so happy this project has finally come to an end. It was so great combining almost all my skills into one single project. The electronics pile I started out with will never again get on my nerves, and I couldn’t be happier about that! Now this may be the end of a chapter, but it is not the end of the book. I still need to design and build a satellite box that will house the limit switch electronics and spindle control.

Also, I am working on getting all plans and schematics up. I’ll add them here in this post, so please do come back in a few days if you are interested.

Here‘s the electrical schematic. It is probably not using 100% correct symbols, but hey I’m an amateur and I think it is clear anyway.

    1. Hey, thanks for your interest. Unfortunately this is an old project of mine that got discarded and broken down for parts back when i made the jump to mach3.
