Shapeoko upgrade (4) – First cut

Well it is finally time to test out my upgraded Shapeoko. I finished it by adding an LED strip underneath the X-rail and put the enclosure back over it. So here it is in all it’s glory:

I must cherish this moment as it probably will be long before I’ll ever see it this clean again. 🙂

Over at the Inventables forum, Zach is currently giving away 100-dollar gift coupons for everyone that remakes the Jimmy DiResta wooden stool.

I figured this is a perfect project to test my rebuilt machine, and as a nice bonus there’s a reward attached to it. So that’s a win-win in my book.

Here’s the timelapse of the cut. There’s a pause mid-video because for some reason my computer decided to restart… Probably an update. I should really disable automatic updates. Luckily I had marked my zero. I manually deleted the already cut shapes from the gcode and resumed the cut without further hiccups.

I rounded the edges on my router table because the edges weren’t as clean as I hoped. This is cement plywood and the paint layer chips pretty badly. Well it was an experiment. You know how it goes, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. This time I lost :-).
