Skateboard (3) – Glue-up

Previous posts:

Last time I wrapped things up on the mold build. I glued some brass tubes in place so I get perfectly placed drilling guides for the truck mounting holes. I was finally ready to form the plywood, but there was one more thing I wanted to try now that the wood was still perfectly flat: adding a graphic.

I used my laser cutter, but noticed my laser tube was on it’s last breath. The graphic’s consistency really suffered from this and I ended up sanding the graphic off again later on. Luckily I had made sure the laser power was set at the absolute minimum so it was very superficial.

Anyhow, with that out of the way, time to glue the veneer sheets. I used regular wood glue so i’m curious how it will hold up. I think it’ll do just fine though.

The most important part now is applying an adequate amount of evenly distributed pressure. I did the best with what tools I have on hand. The fact I used ‘soft’ foam as the mold material might end up being a blessing in disguise as it may make this process a bit more forgiving.

Now we wait for at least 2 days. Then take it out of the mold and wait some more so the glue has time to completely set.
