Small Mountainbike Mod

Phew, what a long time it has been. 5 months since the last post…

The Corona pandemic certainly had a hand in this, but procrastination from my end probably is the mail culprit. To be completely honest, I haven’t really worked on major make-related projects since then, but that doesn’t mean I have been sitting still. There’s some small quality-of-life improvements I’ve done all around the house which I will try to share on the blog over the following days/weeks.

Because my annual airplane holiday was cancelled (due to the pandemic, obviously …), I searched for an alternative closer to home, and I ended up planning a bike trip along the coast of northern France. I had bought a new MTB during the lockdown, which needed a bike rack mounted on it, together with some other small modifications. One thing I always had been bothered by riding local trips is that the rubber handles start slipping slightly outwards over the course of an extended tour. I could glue them onto the handlebars, but I don’t believe glue and rubber play well together. So I made custom plugs and glued those to the handlebar to keep the handles in place.

I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

I didn’t make plans or cnc toolpaths. I just measured the critical dimensions and winged it from there. Turned out pretty cool, and now that I’ve already returned from the trip, I can say they performed wonderfully. No slippage whatsoever over a distance of around 900km!
