It took me some time, but the dedicated LAYZOR website is now officially live!
I won’t elaborate much over here, go to the website and check it out: www.manmademayhem.com/layzor. Plans are available for pre-order.
Just as an added bonus, here’s a pre-build render vs. real life comparison:
Looks great.
What would be the total investment-aprox. for this project if you don’t mind?
I am a beginner in the laser engraving but I will definitely follow your work.
check the faq.

cheers!
Nice work. I built the totally standard 2.x buildlog laser a while ago and even that was a decent amount of time/effort, so I really admire the extensive rebuild.
thanks! means a lot 😉
Hope to see a set of the CNC machined parts up for sale soon!
You have mentioned that there is hardly anything left of the original K40. So this is ideal for someone that already has a K40 laser and wants to build a better machine from it.
However my thoughts are that you have shown how to wire it all up and build the laser. Is there any reason one should go buy a brand new K40 only to pull it all apart for a few parts? If not it may be a better idea to build your design from scratch and simply buy the extra few things needed?
For one it wil actually be cheaper to buy a K40 to start with. I know that is nuts.
But you do have a point, so I am thinking of expanding this build to non-K40-owners and make a from-scratch guide as well.
But this won’t be for this year, I have lots of other stuff to do first…
Resourceful people should be able to build the layzor from scratch already with the current plans.
I want to buy one like this for small projects
You can’t buy the machine. You can buy the plans though
I think i Will do this upgrade , just purchase the Layzors pdf .
I need it a bit bigger , Will there bee a problem too scale up the Laser too about 700x 500 mm ?
hi excuse me, i want to upgrade my k40, and i found this here in USA, but i dont know if it is the right piece because it says “press the block to slide”, can you tell me if its ok https://www.amazon.com/CNC-linear-length-carriage-miniature/dp/B018KFGR7Q thank you
I think it is fine, probably the source part is chinese anyway and that sentence is a result of bad translation. You can ask the seller, but I see no reason why it wouldn’t work.
Hi there, wondered if you had a link or supply contact for all the various wiring the k40 has, i recently bought a used k40 only to find out the guy had it stored in his “Detached” garage, sitting on the floor, mice got into it, looks like I’ve got a whole rewire to do….any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, heh that’s a bummer ;-).
I’m not sure how extensive your damage is, but here’s a webshop that has a wiring kit: https://k40laser.se/k40-parts/k40-spare-upgrade-parts/electronics/wire-loom-to-replace-cables/
Another invaluable source of information is Don’s blog. (http://donsthings.blogspot.com/2016/11/the-k40-total-conversion.html) The website isn’t very user friendly, but the amount of information, schematics, etc. is astounding.
The owners of both these websites are also very knowledgeable (much more than me) about a K40’s inner workings. They are also very active on the K40 forums and facebook pages. Hope this helps!
Hi, how can you change coordinating from k40 30*20cm to 60x40cm.
You have done awesome job 👌.
Thanks,
Best regards
Thanks! What controller and software are you using?
hi Frederico, a few months ago i bought the files , and im going to start in March to build the layzor, but i have a question for you, i have in my shop 30 meters of 2020 profile but the slot is 5.25 mm, can i use it or i need to buy the 6mm slot?
also i have 2m of HGR15 and HGH15 block can i use it too or not?
thanks
Hello
Your link for ordering the laser pdf is throwing up a php error. Is there any other way I can order there plans?
Hello Frederico,
Are the plans still available? The website http://www.manmademayhem.com/layzor/ does not work anymore.
Thanks
Hey,
Yeah, I know. Some WordPress plugin has been wreaking havoc, and I can’t get the site to stay online for more than a couple of days anymore. I’ll probably just try to get a single page up and refer to my email for future orders, as interest isn’t as high as it used to be anyway. Mail me at frederikdotderyckereatgmaildotcom so I have your details.
Have a nice day!
Fred
